Probe ordered into 'preferred sex' abortions

Pregnant women are being given illegal abortions in the UK after complaining their unborn child is "the wrong gender", it was claimed last night.

Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, has ordered an investigation and said: "I'm extremely concerned to hear about these allegations. Sex selection is illegal and is morally wrong."

Covert film and audio footage taken by undercover reporters allegedly shows staff of at three private practices agreeing to terminations when the mother says she wanted a child of the opposite sex.

NHS may need emergency cash bailout

Ministers fear that the National Health Service could require an emergency cash bailout before the next general election to enable it to cope with the escalating demands of an ageing population.

The Chancellor, George Osborne, has promised a real-terms increase in health spending over the next four years. But there is growing anxiety within the Government that the extra money will not be enough to provide care for the growing number of elderly patients and meet the rising cost of advanced medical treatments.

PCT staff still in the dark over their future in the NHS

Pricare has learned that all PCT staff across England are being asked to speak to their line managers regarding news published yesterday on NHS Commissioning Board sizes and letters being sent to them regarding their future work role in the NHS.

 

The letter forms part of an ongoing communication process with staff affected by reforms outlined in the Health and Social Care Bill.
